Bento boxes have long been a significant cultural aspect of Japan, with its history deep-rooted since many centuries ago. What’s special about these small bento boxes and why they are more than just a convenient way to carry food around?
Bento, or 弁当 in Japanese, is a single-serving take-out meal that is usually eaten as lunch. In simple terms, it is like that of a lunch box that we are all familiar with. The meals can be eaten hot or cold.
A traditional bento box usually consists of rice (sometimes noodles) and meat, fish, and pickled and cooked vegetables on the side, making it a nutritionally balanced meal.
Bento is also readily available everywhere in Japan, from convenience stores, supermarkets, stores specializing in bento, and so on. Often times, restaurants will also have special bento menus aside from their usual main ones as well. This makes it a perfect meal option for students and office workers.
Yamafuji Bento brings the Japanese homemade-style bento meal tradition to Southampton at reasonable prices. We provide fresh and balanced meals with authentic Japanese ingredients in bento boxes delivered to homes and work premises.
Our mission is to introduce authentic taste of Japanese home-cooking in bento boxes, catering to health-conscious individuals and food enthusiasts, at affordable prices. Our bento box meals are sometimes also available chilled at certain outlets, such as some canteens, homes and other food outlets. They can also be ordered online on a 1-day advance order basis with minimum orders of £20 for free delivery in postcodes SO14, SO15, SO16, SO17 and SO40 (Totton).
Our home delivery operating hours are Monday to Thursday 12:00 - 17:00. For small gatherings (10-30 people), office meetings, private celebrations, home parties and other special occasions at any time, please contact us at hello@yamafuji-bento.uk at least 2 days in advance.
